The Gold Laced Wyandotte Chickens are the second Wyandotte variety admitted to the Standard of Perfection. Originating in Wisconsin in the 1880s, the Golden Laced Wyandotte comes from a cross between a Silver Laced Wyandotte female and a crossbred Partridge Cochin and Brown Leghorn male. The Wyandotte breed is one of the most popular dual-purpose backyard chicken breeds on the market. They are a hardy, active and medium-sized bird that is primarily used for eggs but can be used for meat as well. Golden Laced Wyandottes are productive large brown egg layers. Wyandottes are easy-going and don't require much maintenance, yet still produce around 200 eggs in a year. Adaptable to confinement and also comfortable in free-range situations, the Golden Laced Wyandotte is an excellent choice for chicken raisers with little to zero experience. These birds are infrequent brooders but excellent mothers. Male and female Golden Laced Wyandottes have completely different plumage. Males have a golden white with each feather having a black stripe. The male's back is also golden white leading to a black tail. The females have a golden gray head with a black tail. The Wyandotte has a low and firm rose comb with yellow shanks and feet.
